• Two Aniak residents charged in A.C. Store burglary, $30,000 stolen

  Two Aniak residents have been charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief, among other counts, after a break-in at the community’s A.C. Store on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
  Philip Simeon, 29, and Juliana Peterson, 20, allegedly forced entry into the Aniak store at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.
  More than $30,000 in cash and checks was taken.

  A Washington man has been indicted for fraudulently taking about $2.7 million from Alaskans.
  The U.S. Attorney’s office in Alaska is charging Floyd Jay Mann Jr., 55, with 11 counts of wire fraud and eight counts of money laundering.

• Search underway for missing cruise passenger

  The Coast Guard is continuing its search for a passenger missing from the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl.
  The 25-year-old woman, identified only as a Columbian national, disappeared from the vessel about 1:40 a.m. Thursday while it was between Funter Bay and Point Retreat. It’s not clear if the woman jumped or simply fell overboard.
  The woman was not discovered as missing until 5 a.m. Thursday morning as the Norwegian Pearl was approaching Glacier Bay.

  A stolen City of Nome pickup was found abandoned and in ruin Tuesday morning off the Kougarok Road.

• Wrangell tribe trains to monitor shellfish for toxins

  The Wrangell Cooperative Association’s shellfish monitoring program is now fully operational.

  The Coast Guard recently opened 20 new housing units on base Kodiak.
  The last neighborhood the Coast Guard built on the island was Aviation Hill between the late 1990s and 2003, said U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr. Brian Chambers, who heads the personnel department.

  Homer Port and Harbor officials say employees helped saved a vessel from sinking on Tuesday.
