• Funeral For Cosumnes Firefighter Killed In Crash To Happen On Saturday

    ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Funeral services have been announced for an off-duty Cosumnes Fire Department firefighter who died in a rollover crash.
    Family and friends of 52-year-old Albaro Meraz will gather at 8 p.m. Friday for a rosary prayer service at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Elk Grove.
    The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.
    Investigators say Meraz died after losing control of his vehicle on Highway 99 last Saturday.
    Meraz was a 17-year veteran of the department.

  • Police Officer Shot And Killed In Newman, Search On For Suspect

    NEWMAN (CBS13) – A search is on for the suspect who fatally shot a police officer in the community of Newman early Wednesday morning.
    The Stanisalus County Sheriff’s Department says, just after 12:30 a.m., 33-year-old officer Ronil Singh made a traffic stop at Merced Street and Eucalyptus Avenue in. At some point, the officer was shot and the suspect took off.
    The officer was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

  • Residents Suspect Heater To Blame For Carmichael Apartment Fire

    CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – Residents of a Carmichael apartment complex had to evacuate early Wednesday morning due to a fire.
    It started just before 4 a.m. off Manzanita Avenue, near Coyle Avenue.
    People living in the apartment believe it might have started in a heater.
    “I could hear it coming through the roof where the heater is,” said resident Andrea Mahone. “I was just trying to get my kids out.”
    Officials say that everyone living in the apartment is now out and safe.

  • High School Students Held Rally For Elementary School After Camp Fire

    BUTTE COUNTY (CBS13) — More than 30 Del Campo High School students held a special rally to welcome Butte County students back to school after the Camp Fire.
    The students and members of Kids Helping Kids Sacramento visited Wilson Elementary and Sycamore Middle School students where they put together holiday activities to cheer on the students of Gridley Unified school district back to school.
    Butte County schools were closed for three weeks following the fire.

  • Funeral Service To Be Held Saturday For Fallen Consumnes Firefighter

    ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A funeral service will be held for fallen Consumnes firefighter Albaro Meraz on Saturday, Dec. 29.
    Meraz died in a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 99 Saturday. He was not on duty at the time.The service will  be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Elk Grove at 11 a.m.

  • Three Sent To Hospital In Christmas Eve House Fire, One In Critical Condition

    DEL PASO HEIGHTS (CBS13) — A house fire sent three people to the hospital late Christmas Eve night.
    Sacramento firefighters fought a “difficult fire” on the 3600 block of Willow Street that broke out at 10:45 p.m.
    Officials said two people rescued from the fire were in stable condition and one was in critical condition.
    Firefighters said the home was a difficult firefight due to several add-on rooms and “shoddy” construction.
