  • Panik To Play For River Cats On Memorial Day

    WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Joe Panik will start his rehab assignment with the River Cats on Monday.
    The Giants second baseman had surgery April 30 to repair a ligament in his left thumb. The All-Star last played ball on April 27.
    Panik, who is a Gold Glove winner, did rehab assignments at Raley Field in 2015 and 2017. He was drafted by the Giants in the 1st round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – There’s still no sign of a Natomas teen missing since Friday.
    Vanessa Casey was last seen Friday night is considered at-risk.
    The 16-year-old was last seen leaving for a walk from her Natomas-area home.
    Her family thinks she could be with a man involved in prostitution. She could be in the area of Stockton Boulevard or Mack Road, family says.
    Anyone who sees Casey or knows where she might be is asked to contact the Sacramento Police Department.
  • People Asked To Stay Out Of Sullivan Creek In Tuolumne County

    SONORA (CBS13) – Officials in Tuolumne County are warning people to stay out of Sullivan Creek.
    Raw sewage from a septic tank spilled near the creek at Pheonix Lake Road and Creekside Drive in Sonora on Sunday.
    Local media later reported that the sewage did not reach the creek.
    However, as a precaution, the health department still says don’t go near the water until further notice.
  • Suspect Breaks Into Modesto Home, Kills Dog

    MODESTO (CBS13) – A family is now offering a $4,000 reward after someone broke into their house and killed their dog.
    The incident happened near Prescott Junior High School Friday night.
    Gary Neal said he and his wife arrived home to find their three-year-old cocker spaniel mix named “Ginger” dead in their master bathroom.
    He thinks the home was broken into a little after 5 p.m. on Friday.
    Authorities have not released any suspect information.

  • Body Of Missing Fisherman Found Near Port Of West Sacramento

    WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — West Sacramento Police say it was around 10:20 Sunday morning when a fire department recovery team found a man’s body in the Sacramento River just south of the Port of West Sacramento.  Police say the body had surfaced to the point where it could be seen and recovered, however, the victim was not wearing a life jacket.
    The coroner’s office has yet to officially confirm the man’s identity, but police say they are “fairly certain”
  • Amtrak: No Evidence Injured Passenger Found In Truckee Was In Fight

    RENO, Nev. (AP) — The family of a 22-year-old train passenger found severely injured next to railroad tracks in Truckee, California, suspects he may have been the victim of a hate crime, but Amtrak said Saturday that investigators have found no evidence of foul play.
    Aaron Salazar’s family believes the Portland State University student, who is gay, was attacked and didn’t jump from the westbound train, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.
