    OROVILLE (CBS13/AP) – State officials say they believe they can avoid emergency releases from a key Northern California reservoir while still protecting the Oroville Dam.
    The California Department of Water Resources said Friday that it significantly bumped up releases from Lake Oroville, even though that means further sacrificing a rapidly deteriorating concrete spillway.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Heavy rains and high rising water kept Sacramento Fire Department busy responding to five water rescues in four hours.
    “Thank you guys so very much,” said Ursula after firefighters brought her to shore.

    Stockton Police Investigating First Homicide Of 2017
    STOCKTON (CBS13) — Stockton Police are investigating their first homicide of 2017.
    The homicide occurred in the area of Hunter and Sonora streets on Thursday afternoon. Police say an adult male died from a stab wound.
    Officers later arrested 30-year-old Michael McPherson in connection to the homicide. He is also suspected in stabbings that happened later Thursday evening at the Madison Market and Wells Fargo Bank in downtown Stockton.
    McPherson was booked at San Joaquin County Jail.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The California Public Utilities Commission announced the 279 area code will be joining the 916 area code in Sacramento.
    The PUC made the move to add a new area code as the region was running out of available prefixes. The current 916 area code is projected to run out in the first part of 2018.
    The rollout is set to begin in September 2017 for customers requesting new phone numbers.

    OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) – State engineers on Thursday discovered new damage to the Oroville Dam spillway in Northern California, the tallest in the United States, though they said there is no harm to the nearby dam and no danger to the public.
