  FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – It’s too soon to declare an end to California’s five-year drought despite the heaviest rain in three decades falling early in the wet season, officials said Tuesday.

  MODESTO (CBS13) – Authorities are investigating after a woman was found fatally shot late Monday night.
  The scene was near California Avenue and Carpenter Road. Heather Graves with the Modesto Police Department says dispatchers got a call around 10 p.m. about a person down in that area.

  NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) – Deputies in Nevada County say they were forced to fire on a man who confronted them armed with a firearm.
  The scene was along the 13000 block of Brookview Drive, southeast of Grass Valley. According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene a little after 3 a.m. Tuesday after a reported disturbance.

• Rifle Sales Up Ahead Of New Gun Control Laws In California

  SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Officials say sales of semi-automatic rifles have more than doubled in California over last year.
  The Sacramento Bee reports that the California Department of Justice shows 364,643 semi-automatic rifles had been sold by Dec. 9 whereas 153,931 rifles were sold last year.

  RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – It’s a Christmas miracle for one family in Rancho Cordova.
  Someone stole a trailer from in front of their home Friday night. Inside the trailer were full-sized, custom built model trains.

  SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Malls, markets and stores were all packed Monday with people either exchanging a gift – or buying what they really wanted.
