    Bill To Close Prison Defense Loophole Awaits Governor’s Pen
    DENVER (AP) — A loophole in Colorado law that allows inmates to use deadly force to defend their prison cells is close to being closed.
    The state Senate voted 35-0 Monday to amend Colorado’s so-called “Make My Day” law, which allows deadly force against threatening intruders.
    The 1985 law has been used at least twice to waive murder charges against Colorado inmates accused of killing fellow inmates who entered their cells.

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – Presidential candidate Ted Cruz will try to win over Colorado’s 27 Republican delegates next month.
    Cruz is scheduled to speak at the state’s Republican convention on April 9. It will be held at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs.
    Members of the state’s GOP will elect 13 delegates at the their convention and also 21 delegates during Congressional district conventions which also take place next month.

    Man Accused Of Attempted Break-In At Sheriff’s Home
    SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – The sheriff in Summit County had to arrest a man who tried to break in to his home late last week.
    Investigators say Graham Goodwin was drunk on Friday when he jumped a fence at Sheriff John Minor’s home in Keystone’s Summit Cove area.
    Goodwin, 24, is accused of then lunging at the sheriff.
    Minor grabbed him, punched him and put him in handcuffs.
    Goodwin is facing criminal trespass charges.

    Colorado Ski Areas Announce Closing Dates
    DENVER (CBS4) – More snow in the forecast is good news for ski resorts and now means a longer season.
    Copper Mountain has announced the resort will stay open an extra weekend in April. Their closing date was originally set for April 17, but it will now remain open for the weekend of April 22-24.
    The Mary Jane lift area of Winter Park will remain open until May 7 due to all the recent snow. The Winter Park side will close on the originally scheduled date of April 24.

    BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) – A student crashed on a bicycle on Monday morning and wound up getting hit by a car.

    DENVER (AP) — A new report says the number of children living in poverty in Colorado has dropped for the second straight year, falling to the same level as before the recession.
    The Kids Count report released Monday by the Colorado Children’s Campaign found that 15 percent of children lived in households earning less than the federal poverty level in 2014, the most recent data available.
