    Brush Fire Breaks Out In Elbert County
    ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – Numerous departments responded to a brush fire in Elbert County Saturday afternoon.
    Elbert County Sheriff’s Office said the grass fire started near the Ben Lomond Gun Club on County Road 105 in Ramah.
    It began at approximately 1 p.m. and as of 2:15 had grown to 300 to 500 acres in size. Several structures were threatened, and one, an unoccupied bar, was lost.
    The fire was 85% contained as of 2:55 p.m., but fire was visible as of 3:10 p.m.

    BAKERVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) – A car and trailer caught fire on Interstate 70 Saturday afternoon.
    Clear Creek Fire Authority received the call at 9:15 a.m. for a smoking pickup truck.
    By the time crews arrived on scene, near Mile Marker 219 outside Bakerville, the truck was fully involved and the camper was catching fire. Both are a total loss.

    Officers Cleared In January Shooting Near Motel
    DENVER (CBS4) – Two Denver police officers will not face criminal charges in connection to a deadly shooting.
    In January, 32-year-old Ramone Lonergan was shot and killed in the parking lot of a hotel near Zuni Street and Speer Boulevard.
    Officers were investigating a stolen vehicle when they say Lonergan pointed a gun at them.
    Denver’s District Attorney ruled Thursday that the shooting was justified, clearing the officers of any wrong doing.

    Denver mayor Michael Hancock was at Thursday’s groundbreaking, where he praised Roots Elementary for its unique teaching style that focuses on individualized learning.

    BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – A man in Boulder who dined and dashed out of a restaurant to avoid the bill has been arrested for sexual exploitation of a child.
    The former manager at the Boulder restaurant said a customer skipped out on a $37 bill. But the customer left his cell phone on a table, and when staff turned the phone on to try and see who it belonged, they stumbled into a more serious crime.

    Douglas Bruce Sentenced To 2 Years For Probation Violation
    DENVER (CBS4) – Former State Representative Douglas Bruce will spend two years in prison for violating his probation.
    Bruce was convicted in 2012 of tax evasion and trying to influence a public servant.
    A Denver judge ruled he violated probation by not disclosing his financial dealings.
    Bruce continues to claim he’s innocent, and says he’s been targeted by the government because of his role in passing the taxpayer’s bill of rights.

    DENVER (CBS4) – The U.S. Department of Energy has announced Denver as the next location for their biennial Solar Decathlon Competition.

    Over the next 18 months, 16 teams will raise funds, design and build their 800-square foot and 100% solar-powered houses, then transport to Denver.

    Zachary Strnad, of Aurora, was sentenced Friday for the Aug. 21 crash that killed 38-year-old Thomas Flanagan, of Golden. Strnad previously pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and DUI.

    COLORADO CITY, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a man was shot and killed at a gas station in southern Pueblo County as he accelerated toward state troopers in a stolen vehicle.
    The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says troopers pulled the man and his female passenger over near a gas station in Colorado City on Thursday night. The man, whose name has not been released, fled on foot and stole a nearby vehicle.
