  • Former cell block attendant who beat inmate sentenced

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A former City of Buffalo cell block attendant who assaulted a prisoner last year was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
    Matthew Jaskula, 27, pleaded guilty to the May 2016 incident this past May.
    According to court documents, then-suspect Shaun Porter was brought in to the City of Buffalo’s cell block on West Eagle St. after being accused of assaulting a woman. Those charges have since been dismissed.

    KENMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A record 13,350 winter clothing items were distributed during Colvin Cleaners’ 22nd annual Coats 4 Kids campaign.

  • Alden Primary School students moved to church after smell of gas detected

    ALDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) — Students at Alden Primary School were taken to Town Line Lutheran Church on Thursday afternoon after the smell of natural gas was reported.
    The students were moved to the church as a precautionary step in case there was any danger.
    The school district wrote on Twitter that “everyone is safe.” National Fuel was called to the scene.
    Any parents who wish to pick up their children can go to the church, which is at the corner of Town Line Rd. and Broadway.

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) — All Jamestown Public Schools briefly went into lockout Thursday morning.

    Officers say Doug Beardsley, 33, and Jarried Dean, 25, unlawfully entered a house and started firing shots.

  • Homeless man indicted on charge of murdering other homeless man

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A homeless man has been indicted after prosecutors say he killed another homeless man on West Ave. in Buffalo.
    Peter Isaacs, 38, was charged with murdering Preston German, 46, inside a vacant home this past October. Prosecutors say Isaacs strangled German.
    Isaacs pleaded not guilty and was jailed without bail. If he is convicted, he could spend 25 years to life in prison.

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in the City of Tonawanda charged a man with DWI after his vehicle crashed on Minerva St. early Thursday morning.
