• Upcoming event to raise awareness for Bean’s Cafe, Children’s Lunchbox

  For the seventh year in a row, “The Pour” will raise money and awareness for Bean’s Cafe and the Children’s Lunchbox program.
  This year’s event will feature a dinner made by chef Patrick Hoogerhyde of the Bridge Seafood restaurant. Some of the items on the menu will include scallops, a wild game brochette. They can be paired with wine, ales or two local hard ciders. All food and drink was donated, according to Lisa Sauder, Bean’s Cafe executive director.

• Ohio State University student shot dead after car and knife attack

• Alaska turnout up slightly from last presidential election

  Voter turnout in this month’s general election hit 60.7 percent, up slightly from the last presidential election in 2012.
  According to the Division of Elections, turnout in 2012 totaled 59.6 percent. Over the last 20 years, turnout in presidential election years has been as low as 59.1 percent in 1996 and as high as 66.6 percent in 2004.
  With ballot counting completed, Anchorage Republican Rep. Charisse Millett held off Democratic challenger Pat Higgins, winning by 95 votes.

  ANCHORAGE – A strong storm headed towards Southeast Alaska will bring snow, rain and windy conditions by late Monday night.
  Heavy snow is expected over the northern panhandle beginning sometime after midnight Tuesday. A winter storm warning is in place for the Klondike and Haines Highways, where 8 to 18 inches of wet snow is expected.

  One of the oldest and tallest ponderosa pines in the Pacific Northwest has died with little fanfare after hundreds of years.
  The Columbian says the so-called “Big Tree” was a well-known attraction for tourists driving through the Columbia River Gorge.

  Two people have been found dead in a burned vehicle in Soldotna, and are believed to be two individuals who were reported missing nearly two weeks ago.
  Alaska State Troopers say a trooper was following up at a Soldotna home Sunday where the two people were last seen the night of Nov. 14.

  A 21-year-old man is facing charges in the shooting death of a relative.
  The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports Alaska State Troopers found the body of 51-year-old Riba Dewilde at her home in Tok on Saturday morning.
  A news release says investigators determined she was shot by a family member.
  The 21-year-old man faces first- and second-degree murder charges.
