  A 23-year-old faces charges after someone allegedly broke into Safeway and stole merchandise.
  Kurtis Detemple, 23, was arrested on class C felony charges of second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief; and also a charge of fourth-degree theft, which is a class B misdemeanor.

  One man is being held without bail after officers responded to a call early Saturday morning that someone allegedly was attempting to break into a Juneau residence.
  Demetrius Campos, 21, was arrested on one class B felony charge of first-degree burglary, and two misdemeanor charges: one count of class A misdemeanor of fourth-degree assault and one count of fifth-degree criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.

  There was a float plane crash in the vicinity of Uganik Lake this afternoon.
  A De Havilland DHC-2 float plane carrying three people crashed shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to Petty Officer Bill Colclough in the Anchorage Coast Guard Public Affairs Office.

• Finance committee addresses city’s budget deficit, delays action on school district

  City officials are one step closer to solving this year’s budget deficit after a city finance committee meeting Thursday evening.
