    California Lawmakers Want To Add Third Gender Option To IDs
    SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Democratic lawmakers have introduced a bill supporters say would make California the first state to add a third gender option on state identifying documents.
    State Sen. Toni Atkins announced the measure Thursday to add a non-binary gender option on documents including driver’s licenses, birth certificates and identity cards. The San Diego Democrat’s bill would also simplify the process for changing one’s gender on those documents.

    UC System Approves First Tuition Increase In 7 Years
    SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The University of California has approved its first tuition increase in seven years.
    The university system’s Board of Regents voted Thursday for the plan to increase tuition by 2.5 percent a year during its meeting in San Francisco.
    The vote came after UC President Janet Napolitano called for the annual tuition increase of $282 and a bump in fees by $54 for the 2017-18 school year.

    Sonora Elementary School Closed Through End Of Week Due To Fire
    SONORA (CBS13) – A Tuolumne County elementary school is closed for the rest of the week after a fire in two classrooms.
    The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and firefighters responded to Curtis Creek Elementary School in Sonora just before 5 a.m. Thursday. Crews found that two classrooms were on fire.

    GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) — Caltrans says a massive 70-foot sinkhole along Highway 49 is not going to cause the highway to collapse.
    The sinkhole opened earlier this month during recent storms. Over the weekend, the California Highway Patrol received reports from drivers noticing a dip in the highway.

  • Woman Arrested After Pursuit In Stolen Sacramento Sewer Truck

    DAVIS (CBS13) — Police say a woman led them on a chase in a stolen Sacramento sewer tuck.
    The vehicle was reported stolen from the Sacramento Area Sewer District on Wednesday, and the truck had a GPS tracker inside it.
    Officers attempted to pull it over in the Cameron Park Area, then engaged in a pursuit onto Highway 50 into Sacramento.
    The truck was spiked just west of UC Davis and Old Davis Road and the suspect was taken into custody.
