• Unemployment, Jobs Down In September

  (Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – There’s been another drop in Connecticut’s unemployment rate but the state also shed jobs in September.
  Andy Condon is the director of research at the state Department of Labor.
  He says jobs declined by 7,600 for the month.  However, unemployment was down 1/10 of a percentage point to 5.2 %.

  HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Hartford is going to fly its flags at half-staff in honor of the city’s first African-American fire chief, who died due to complications from a fall.
  John Stewart, Jr. was born in the city and joined the fire department in 1952.
  He became the first black fire chief in New England when he took over the department in the 1980s and served as chief for 12 years before retiring. He then served as majority leader of the city council.

  (Bristol, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – A man seriously injured in a Friday crash between a motorcycle and another motor vehicle has died.
  Bristol police say 56-year-old Matthew Cote of Middletown died Friday night.
  Earlier in the day, his motorcycle collided with a vehicle driven by 81-year-old Claire Nocera of Bristol.
