    (AP) – Belgian federal police say soldiers have shot a man in downtown Brussels after he attacked the troops with a knife.
    Belgian Federal Police spokesman, Jonathan Pfunde says “a man armed with a knife attacked a group of soldiers. The soldiers fired at him and neutralized the individual.”
    Belgium’s anti-terror crisis center also said in a tweet the soldiers had “neutralized” the man and that the “situation is under control.”

    LONDON (AP) — British police say a man has been arrested after an assault on police outside Buckingham Palace in central London.
    The Metropolitan Police Force says two officers suffered minor injuries Friday night while detaining the suspect. No other injuries have been reported. A large number of police vehicles could be seen in the road outside the palace.

    IRVING, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man barricaded himself in a garage Friday morning following a fight in which he threatened another individual with a knife, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies report.
    After sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene, the suspect then discharged a firearm in proximity to other houses.
    The suspect, John L. McLaughlin III, 21, was taken into custody a short time later.

  • Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus Park vandalized

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Somebody vandalized the statue of Christopher Columbus in Columbus Park overnight, and Buffalo Police are looking for the culprit or culprits.
    Police say that someone either sprayed or poured red paint over parts of the statue, which is located near Columbus Parkway in the city’s West Side.
    The vandalism was discovered Friday morning. It’s unclear when it occurred.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Home prices in Buffalo are skyrocketing when compared to last year.
    On a list of the 100 most populous cities in the United States, Buffalo was at number one for surging home prices.
    In June 2016, the median list price of a home in the city was $63,000, according to data from Zillow. One year later, it was $84,900 — a 34.76 percent increase.

    The NFTA is showing off its new aircraft rescue and firefighting facility.
    The new facility opened on Thursday. It is a 24,000 square foot building that will serve as the new home for the airport’s firefighters, emergency response teams and all machinery and equipment.

  • Car collides with train in fatal Chautauqua County accident

    RIPLEY, N.Y. (WIVB) – State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a train in Chautauqua County.
    According to NYSP, a 2009 Ford Escape was traveling southbound around 3:30 p.m. Thursday when it traveled through the crossing of a train near Goodrich Street, into the path of the train.
    The operator was identified as Marilyn Triana, 58, of Ripley. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
    The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are investigating an overnight shooting accident in which a 15-year-old was struck by gunfire.
    The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning in the 100 block of Theodore Street.
