  Three U.S. soldiers were killed when an Afghan army soldier opened fire on them following an operation in eastern Afghanistan, a U.S. official confirms to CBS News.
  Attahullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the governor in Nangarhar province, said earlier Saturday that two U.S. soldiers had been killed and two others wounded in the attack. One of those wounded later died of injuries sustained in the attack, a U.S. official tells CBS News.

• Aleut evacuees honored at Dutch Harbor 75th anniversary ceremony

  The World War II Museum in Dutch Harbor is filled with reminders of the impact the war had on the people who lived there.
  More than 800 Aleuts were evacuated and sent to internment camps in Southeast because their homes became a military battleground; eighty-five would never make it back home. It’s a piece of history few people know about.

• Wasilla Police seek help to replace K-9 unit lost to cancer

  It’s been a difficult year for K-9 officers in the Mat-Su Valley.
  Two Alaska State Trooper dogs were shot and killed in the line of duty and in April, and Wasilla Police suddenly lost its sole working dog to aggressive cancer.
  The department says they don’t have the money to replace him, but, they also can’t afford not to.

  An Alaskan was picked for NASA’s 2017 class of astronaut candidates.
  Robb Kulin, 33, was one of 12 chosen from more than 18,000 applicants.
  Kulin was born and raised in Anchorage. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, a Master’s in material science and a Doctorate in engineering.
  Kulin worked as an ice driller in Antarctica and has been with Space X since 2011.
  He’ll train with NASA for two years before getting his shot at space.
