• Cause of death unclear for Steller sea lion in Morris Cove

  The carcass of a Steller sea lion washed up this weekend in Unalaska’s Morris Cove.
  The dead marine mammal was an adult male, almost 8-feet long, according to Melissa Good of the Alaska Sea Grant program.

• Man seriously injured in hammer attack

  Anchorage Police are investigating an assault with a hammer that occurred early Monday morning near downtown.
  Police were called to the 800 block of Karluk Street around 2:30 Monday morning on reports of someone bleeding from the head.

  ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – The first woman to serve as president of the Alaska state Senate has died.
  Former state Sen. Jan Faiks died Monday at her home in Amelia Island, Florida. Her husband, former state Sen. Lloyd Jones, confirmed the death.
  Faiks was diagnosed last year with brain cancer.
  She was born Nov. 17, 1945.Faiks was a teacher in the Anchorage School District from 1968 to 1978 and founded The Green Connection, an interior plant design company.

  POTTSTOWN, Pa. (AP) – A Pennsylvania volunteer fire company says it has canceled this year’s Easter egg hunt for children because of “unruly” parents in past years.

  Anchorage Police are investigating a shooting that left one man injured.
