  Juneau school counselors wear multiple hats.
  They help with career readiness, relationship counseling and last year some students had an unfortunate reminder that their counselors can help them grieve.
  Unexpected deaths can have a ripple effect in Juneau.
  Last fall, a music teacher for both Floyd Dryden Middle School and Thunder Mountain High School died from a heart attack, and a 17-year-old Thunder Mountain student died from an accidental gunshot wound.

  ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – An Alaska volcano that’s been active since mid-December has erupted again.
  The Alaska Volcano Observatory says Bogoslof Volcano in the Aleutian Islands erupted just before 10 a.m. and sent an ash cloud to 25,000 feet.
  Ash can harm and stop jet engines. Ash from southwest Alaska volcanos is a threat airliners operating between North America and Asia when a cloud rises above 20,000 feet.

  A 32-year-old Angoon man was taken into custody earlier this week for assaulting a woman and a village public safety officer (VPSO).
  Few details were immediately available, but in a dispatch from Alaska State Troopers the agency said a woman reported Irl Fredrickson, 32, was drunk and hit her. When the VPSO contacted Fredrickson, troopers said, the man became violent and struck the officer multiple times in the face. The officer suffered minor injuries, the agency wrote.   Alaska State Troopers shot a Big Lake man early Friday after he threatened to kill his girlfriend and their son, according to an agency dispatch.

• Tug goes aground near Ketchikan

  Coast Guard officials are checking on potential pollution from a tug that ran aground Wednesday evening.
  The 90-foot tug Samson Mariner suffered from a 2-inch breech in the hull and a hole in a fuel cell when it hit Rosa Reef in northern Tongass Narrows.
  Preliminary reports indicate the tug lost power and steering.
  The Coast Guard said there was about 30,000 gallons of fuel on-board the tug, and an estimated 3,000 gallons was discharged.
