• Alaska House passes bill to designate Indigenous Peoples Day

  JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – Columbus Day would be known as Indigenous Peoples Day in Alaska under legislation that passed the state House Friday.
  House Bill 78, from Democratic Rep. Dean Westlake, passed 31-7. It next goes to the Senate.
  Bills seeking to designate Indigenous Peoples Day in Alaska failed last year. One of the bills, like Westlake’s proposal, would have marked Indigenous Peoples Day on Columbus Day. Another would have set it for Oct. 18, Alaska Day.

  Families of military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice got to spend last weekend at the Pro Bowl, thanks to an Alaska group.
  The NFL invited Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS, to be part of the Pro Bowl festivities. Alaskan Bonnie Carroll founded TAPS after her husband was killed in action.

  Anchorage residents can expect dense fog until about noon Saturday, according to a release from the Anchorage Office of Emergency Management. The late-morning warning, was their third fog warning since Thursday night.

  One of five men involved in the theft of 17 firearms from a Dillingham residence has pleaded guilty and been sentenced.
