This weekend in Palmer, the Anchorage chapter of the organization Team Red, White and Blue is hosting a town hall style meeting.
“It’s important because we know that we’re surrounded by veterans, but so many of us don’t know their stories. We don’t really know much about them other

Dow closes at record high; other indexes mixed
The Dow Jones industrial average is closing at a record high, led by big gains in a few of its 30 components including Goldman Sachs and IBM, beating the all-time high it set in August.
Broader market measures were closing mixed Thursday as several sectors struggled, including consumer goods companies, utilities and phone companies.
Bond prices continued to fall, sending yields higher. Bond investors expect that Trump’s plans to increase spending on infrastructure while also lowering taxes -

‘In Plain Sight’ exhibit shows how camouflage affects our world
An exhibit at the Anchorage Museum looks at how people work to be seen and unseen through the lens of cultural and functional camouflage.
Whether it be from fashion, nature, the military or even technology, “Camouflage: In Plain Sight” explores the magic of camouflage.
The exhibit features images from Simon Menner, a photographer who took images of snipers in nature. That’s not all; there are pieces from Andy Warhol, a cuttlefish tank, a cloaking scarf and more.

Story Time w/ Aunt Phil: Alaska’s Constitution
This week in 1955, a group of dedicated Alaskans convened on the campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks to begin drafting a constitution for what they hoped would become the new State of Alaska.
When the 31 delegates from the major cities of Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage and 24 from other regions of the territory gathered at the university on Nov. 8, it included 49 men and six women who were business people, lawyers, miners, fishermen, homemakers and one homesteader. The only Alaska Nati -
Much of the southeast U.S. is grappling with drought
via ktoo.org
Large parts of the Southeast are grappling with severe drought.
In some parts of Alabama, there hasn’t been any rain in nearly six weeks. Some farmers are selling off cattle because there’s not enough hay to feed them over the winter.
Denise Croker, a chief ranger with the Georgia Forestry Commission, told the Insurance Journal, “our dirt is like talcum powder.”
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report, released Thursday, shows parts of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, A -

Johnsen recommends UA not cut teams, for now
The University of Alaska (UA) will not move forward with plans to cut athletics teams at this time, according to a statement from President Jim Johnsen.
The statement, released Thursday morning, said the decision stems from the NCAA’s response to a waiver submitted by UA last month. The NCAA has neither denied nor approved the University’s request, Johnsen said, which signals the association will only consider the waiver after the number of teams is below the minimum of 10 teams.

via ktoo.org
SITKA — Officials in the city of Sitka have voted to have the U.S. Navy move its offshore training exercises in the Gulf of Alaska in an attempt to protect marine life.

In meeting at White House, President-elect Trump calls Obama ‘very fine man’
via ktoo.org
It was perhaps the unthinkable: President Obama meeting with his successor at the White House in the first step to carry out the peaceful transition of power in the American Republic — and it’s Donald Trump.
But that’s exactly what happened Thursday morning in what amounts to one of the more surreal moments in American political history.
