• Police: Fairbanks officer shot multiple times, suspect still at large

  A manhunt is underway for a suspect allegedly seen on camera shooting a Fairbanks police officer just after midnight on Sunday.
  The officer, who has not yet been identified, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and has been flown to Anchorage for treatment of his injuries, which police spokeswoman Yumi McCulloch described as serious.

• 3-vehicle collision partially closes Mendenhall Loop Road

  Seven people were treated for injuries at Bartlett Regional Hospital on Saturday after a three-vehicle collision in the Mendenhall Valley. The injuries weren’t life-threatening.
  Sgt. Jeremy Weske with Juneau Police Department said the crash happened at about 11 a.m. near the intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road and Thunder Mountain Road. One driver, 41-year-old Jana Pierce, was cited for failing to maintain a safe distance.

• Teaching panel proposes protections for transgender students

  An Alaska educational commission is proposing adding transgender students to a list of protected categories in its code of ethics.
  KTVA-TV reports the Professional Teaching Practices Commission is looking to include a clause adding gender identification to the code.

• Big Lake man charged with animal cruelty for allegedly shooting dog

  Alaska State Troopers say they arrested a Big Lake man after he allegedly shot a dog and then resisted arrest on Friday.
  The dog was shot at a home on Sunrise Drive, troopers said in an online dispatch. They arrived at 6:25 p.m. and found a small dog had been wounded by a neighbor, 77-year-old William Hansen, who troopers said was intoxicated at the time.

  The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) is coordinating the clean-up process of contaminated lands throughout the region and all over the state. White Mountain’s oil drum storage area is one of nearly 1,000 sites transferred from federal entities to Alaska Native corporations under ANCSA.
