• Kodiak police chief gives statement on discontinuation of body worn cameras

  The Kodiak Police Department recently discontinued the use of video cameras attached to officers’ uniforms, and Police Chief Ronda Wallace gave a statement at Thursday’s Kodiak City Council regular meeting regarding the reasons for the change.

• Alaska church works to rebuild after building collapse

  BETHEL — A church in the southwest Alaska village of Nunapitchuk, where half the population is part of the congregation, has resumed services weeks after the building toppled off its pilings and collapsed.
  The village is allowing the Nunapitchuk Moravian Church to use a community building at no cost until it raises the money to rebuild.

• Airport lavatory dumpsite closes after federal inspection

  JUNEAU — The Juneau International Airport has shut down its lavatory dump station after federal officials uncovered code violations during a surprise inspection.
  The Juneau Empire reports that the dumpsite is where onboard lavatories are emptied from Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines aircraft. An inspector from the Food and Drug Administration visited the site last week and found five violations, including a lack of a hand-washing station and an uncapped waste hose.
