• Admiralty Dream captain dies aboard ship

  The captain of a small cruise ship touring Southeast Alaska was discovered dead in his cabin Monday morning.
  Ken Adams was the captain of the Admiralty Dream, a 153-foot vessel operated by Alaskan Dream Cruises based in Sitka.
  Alaskan Dream Vice President Jamie Cagle said Adams was found unresponsive by fellow crew members, who administered CPR.
  Alaska State Troopers responded and boarded the Admiralty Dream in Angoon on Admiralty Island.

• Troopers suspend search for missing Nome man

  The search has been suspended for a Nome man missing for more than a week.Alaska State Troopers say they’ve ended the search for 36-year-old Joseph Balderas pending any new leads.
  The search for Balderas began after he failed to show up for work June 27 at his job as a law clerk in the Nome court.
  Balderas’ vehicle was found along the Nome-Council Highway, and Alaska State Troopers say he may have been mountain running or hiking off the road.

  A small earthquake rattled dishes along the outer coast of Southeast Alaska on Monday evening. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a magnitude 3.6 quake occurred about 20 miles west of Whale Bay off the coast of Baranof Island at 7:20 p.m. The epicenter was located at a depth of about 21 miles below the surface of the earth.In Sitka, the quake was felt as two sharp jolts in quick succession.
