    LOS ANGELES — Conchata Ferrell, who became known for her role as Berta the housekeeper on TV’s “Two and a Half Men” after a long career as a character actor on stage and in movies, including “Mystic Pizza” and ”Network,” has died. She was 77.
    Ferrell died Monday at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles following cardiac arrest, according to publicist Cynthia Snyder.

    California tells Republicans ‘cease and desist’ with unofficial ballot drop boxes, but GOP remains defiant
    The state issued cease and desist orders to the California Republican Party and local GOP officials in Orange, Los Angeles and Fresno counties over the use of unauthorized ballot drop boxes, Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Monday.
    Republicans have until Thursday, Oct. 15 to remove the drop boxes, which Padilla said are not legal. Otherwise, he said his office will “consider all of our legal options,” which could include both civil and criminal

    It was smooth sailing during a three-day regatta in the Newport Beach Harbor, with two local racers earning a prestigious US Sailing National Championship title.
    Newport Beach sailors Jake La Dow and Alex Curtiss earned first place after winning six races and placing in the top four in 17 of the 21 races held from Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11.
