    Two suspects are in custody and seven to eight people were injured following a shooting Tuesday afternoon at the STEM School in Highlands Ranch, according to Douglas County sheriff’s officials.
    The suspects are students at the school,  and one is an adult and the other is a juvenile, Sheriff Tony Spurlock said. The suspects went “deep inside the school” and engaged in two locations, he said. The suspects used at least one handgun but it was unknown what other weapons might

    British hard rock band Deep Purple is about to go on a farewell tour across the U.S. with three stops planned in Southern California.
    The group will kick off its tour, dubbed the “Long Goodbye Tour,” at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside on Sept. 3 before heading to The Wiltern in Los Angeles Sept. 4 and Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula on Sept. 6. Ticket prices start at $89 for the Pechanga show but other prices had not yet been announced.

    Maximum Security Kentucky Derby appeal quickly denied
    LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission didn’t take long to deny the appeal of Maximum Security’s disqualification as Kentucky Derby winner for interference, saying hours after it was filed Monday that the stewards’ decision is not subject to appeal.
    The commission’s letter to attorney D. Barry Stilz, who filed the appeal of behalf of owners Gary and Mary West, also denied a request to stay the disqualification ruling pending appeal.

    In 2004, then-mayor of Fountain Valley Guy Carrozzo dedicated his second term to the country’s veterans. He made the same commitment during his first term as mayor in 2000.
