Bath Sports and Leisure Centre is poised to undergo a green transformation as Bath and North East Somerset Council has secured funding for the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.
The council has been awarded £173,166 from Phase II of the government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund (SPSF), aiming to enhance energy efficiency in public facilities with pools.
Pending confirmation from a roof survey, the centre is set to host up to a 212-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar PV array

The UK Government has announced plans to mandate 10% of jet fuel used in UK flights from sustainable sources by 2030 and 22% by 2040.This policy aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and foster economic growth, with projections of injecting £1.8 billion into the economy and creating over 10,000 jobs.

Arco goes green: Installs over 2,300 solar panels
Arco, a UK safety company, installed over 2,300 solar panels on its National Distribution Centre in Hull, supporting its aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2045.
The installation, carried out by renewable energy specialist Heatsource Direct, is expected to meet around 50% of the NDC’s power demand starting in May.

New energy from waste facility opens in Aberdeen
Leaders from Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, and Moray Councils officially opened the NESS Energy from Waste facility, emphasising its role in sustainable waste management.
Located in East Tullos, the plant processes around 150,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually from the three councils, with electricity sent to the national grid and heat supplied to a local district heating network.

UK gas production drops by 9%
Gas production in the UK dropped by 9% in the three-month period leading up to February 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year.
