Ford purchased Spin, a relatively unknown scooter startup, last year for $40 million.
Unlike the well-known rivals Lime and Bird, Spin is planning on playing nice with cities and regulators.
CEO Euwyn Poon spoke with Business Insider about the acquisition and why the company is betting on college campuses to beat out the competition. Scooter rentals were virtually unheard of when Euwyn Poon showed up at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, in 2017.

David Kelly, the chief global strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, said the global economy is slowing because businesses are delaying decisions, particularly around manufacturing.
