Bank of America lays out the scenario for the next big selloff — and it hinges on one key thing
Bank of America Merrill Lynch published the results of its monthly fund-manager survey, and found one indicator moving in the wrong direction to support risk assets.
The firm lays out its scenario for the next bout of risk selling, pinning it largely to one key driver.
There's an old saying that "cash is king." And judging by Bank of America Merrill Lynch's latest forecast, that may very well be true for the market right now.
Michael Hartnett, BAML's chief investment strategist, says conditions -
Wall Street’s best stock picker shares his secret weapon for unlocking massive investment opportunities and crushing the market
Dennis Lynch, head of growth investing at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, was the top large-cap portfolio manager of 2017, and his funds have been dominating for years.
In an exclusive interview with Business Insider, he shares what's long served as his secret weapon when analyzing companies and industries.
Sometimes being an expert on a topic can be a detriment — at least when large changes are afoot.
This may seem like a surprising statement, but the logic is pretty straightforward -
A 'self-fulfilling prophecy' is making the housing market more hellish for first-time buyers
The share of Americans who think now is a good time to buy because home prices won't fall is at a record high, according to the University of Michigan's consumer sentiment survey.
This is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that's making housing more unaffordable for first-time buyers, according to David Rosenberg, Gluskin Sheff's chief economist.
Home prices are near record highs in many cities across America, and the belief they'll continue rising is encouraging more people to buy. -
Morgan Stanley just issued an ominous forecast for the rest of 2018 — and it should have traders worried that markets are peaking
Morgan Stanley says the easy conditions enjoyed by stock traders over the past several years are rapidly coming to an end.
The firm provides a specific forecast for when various asset classes will see their cyclical peaks — and spoiler alert, it's coming soon.
The past couple years have been exceedingly easy for investors.
It may not seem that way to traders who have battled on the front lines through rough patches and geopolitical scares, but Morgan Stanley says that once people have -

GOLDMAN SACHS: Oil is one of the hottest investments right now — but a dangerous mantra is robbing them of huge returns
Commodities are the best-performing asset class year to date.
Even with oil recovering by more than 50% over the past year, some investors are still skittish about the asset class.
"These are dangerous words from a risk-management perspective," Goldman Sachs' commodity strategists said about the justification they keep hearing.
Commodities are this year's best-performing asset class, with crude oil continuing to recover from its worst crash in over four decades.
But the lingering impact of that -
Last year was a seller's market for private companies looking to be acquired — these three charts show how the deals got sweeter for them
Last year was a seller's market when it came to mergers and acquisitions of private companies.
When private companies were acquired last year, they were generally able to get better terms than in previous years, according to a new report from SRS Acquiom.
Buyers were more likely to pay for private companies solely with cash, rather than partially with stock, and sellers were set to see the full purchase price sooner than in prior years, according to the report.Last year was a pretty good one for -
GOLDMAN SACHS: A closely watched market indicator is broken — here's how you can take advantage and make a killing
A closely watched stock-market indicator looks broken to Goldman Sachs, which cites aberrant trading in recent weeks.
The firm provides a trading strategy that could generate serious profits if the gauge snaps back to reality.
Something is not right with the VIX.
So says Goldman Sachs, which thinks the gauge — officially known as the Cboe Volatility Index and viewed as a proxy for market fear — is too low.
At the core of the firm's stance is the disparity between how much the benchma -
'America First' should start with the plight of the country's abandoned Native population
Native-Americans suffer from what is known as the Asterix problem: Their numbers are too small to have a major macroeconomic impact, and thus their plight as a minority is often ignored.
"This section of our population has been invisible — [seen as] too small or insignificant,” Patrice Kunesh, director of the Minneapolis Fed's Center for Indian Country Development, told Business Insider.
During 2011-2015, the share of American Indian men ages 16-64 who were without jobs w -
The tech IPO market has become a good predictor of a recession and this chart shows why we may be due for another one soon
The economy may be headed for a recession soon, data on tech public offerings seem to indicate.
Over the last 30 years, one telling sign of a recession has been the portion of tech companies going public that were profitable.
Profitability tends to hit a low ebb right before an economic downturn, a position we seem to be in again.Warning: Another recession may be dead ahead.
It's hard to predict exactly when an economic downturn will happen. But if you had kept a close eye on tech initial public -
'Comfort is not your friend' — The stock market's biggest bear explains why the next market crash will be one of the worst ever
John Hussman, the outspoken investor and former professor who has been predicting a stock market crash, has fresh thoughts relating to trader overconfidence.
He argues one of the biggest problems plaguing the stock market is the high level of comfort felt by investors, and notes similar periods have historically preceded disaster.
"The duration of this episode of euphoria has been stretched to an extent that will make the depth of subsequent losses far worse than in most prior market cycles," he -
Morgan Stanley has identified 17 stocks that will pay off hugely over the next 3 years no matter what
Morgan Stanley's equity strategists have been sounding the alarm on the bull market for months, saying an extended period of volatility and weaker returns may be underway.
If that's the case, it increases the importance of stock picking.
Equity strategists across the firm rated companies they believe will deliver the best returns over the next three years.
If "buy and hold" is your strategy, Morgan Stanley has a few stocks for your consideration.

Google has been waiting for years to put Don't Be Evil out of its misery (GOOG, GOOGL)
Google downgraded its famous "Don't Be Evil" adage in its employee code of conduct
The move has been a long time coming.
Remember Don't Be Evil?
When Google became a verb in the early 2000s, the adage became a slogan that paid dividends for the tech company.
Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin enshrined it in the company's official code of conduct for employees, and inumerable news stories and TV segments gushed over the benevolent tech giant's admirable combination of innovat -
Morgan Stanley figured out how much YouTube would be worth if it were a separate company, and it's more valuable than Disney (GOOG, GOOGL)
If Google-owned YouTube were a standalone company, it would be worth more than IBM, Disney or Comcast, says Morgan Stanley.
The investment bank says YouTube's new music subscription service represents an opportunity to boost revenue growth.
If Google's YouTube were a standalone company, the world’s dominant video-sharing site would be worth more than big blue-chip companies like General Electric, IBM, PepsiCo or Comcast, and would be roughly the same value as media powerhouse Walt D
