EY and one of its audit partners have been fined a combined £1.25m following failings in their audit of collapsed online furniture retailer Made.com.
The Financial Reporting Council imposed a £1.197m financial sanction on EY and fined audit engagement partner Julie Carlyle £49,000 over their work on Made.com’s accounts for the year ending 31 December 2021.

Royal Mail bulk price hike set to increase retailer marketing costs
Retailers face higher costs for direct marketing and customer communications after Royal Mail revealed plans to raise its wholesale postal prices by an average of 25 per cent.

Unilever upgrades outlook as sales growth beats expectations
Unilever has raised its full-year outlook after stronger demand for brands including Dove, Vaseline and Persil helped second-quarter sales surpass expectations.
The consumer goods giant posted underlying sales growth of 5.8 per cent for the three months to 30 June, ahead of analysts’ forecasts of 4.3 per cent.

LVMH’s fashion and leather goods division has returned to growth for the first time in two years, boosted by improving sales at Dior.

Lululemon brings Klarna to stores: does the future of BNPL lie in physical shops?
Last week Lululemon introduced Klarna payments across its physical UK and German stores.
The buy now pay later (BNPL) service has already been available for shoppers on the Lululemon website for more than five years.
However, Klarna described the decision as a “natural next step in that relationship” which reflected its “strategic move beyond the browser”.

Discount retailer The Works saw profits soar 47 per cent to £14 million in its latest full year results, as stronger sales, improved margins and cost savings helped to offset its higher wage and tax costs.
