The following is part of Raptors Republic’s series of pieces reviewing the season for the Toronto Raptors. You can find all the pieces in the series here.Well Raptors fans, it’s been a rollercoaster of a season. However, one of the best parts of this ride was six-foot-three guard, Immanuel Quickley.Do you remember, Immanuel’s first game in Toronto? Immanuel Quickley will be a Raptor, but for how much?
Ahh yes, the economics of basketball. Competing conceptions of value. Seeing through the numbers, seeing past them, looking at them deeply – all of that stuff. Moneyball etc. etc.
As we all know, the Raptors made a huge decision to trade OG Anunoby (and Precious Achiuwa & Malachi Flynn) and jumpstarted their rebuild with that decision. RJ Barrett came back in that trade and he’s comfortably under contract so we don’t have to consider much there — unless you’re d

You can find all the pieces in the series here. The best toy my son ever owned (so far) was a pink helium balloon we, I think, stole from another child’s party. He was in his wagon with me, out walking the dog, when a pink helium balloon floated into the road from someone’s house. We were on the other side of the street watching it. My son said, “look look!&rdquo

Things remain quiet in Raptors land. Not much is going to happen until trades open up when the season ends, and even then, we’re probably waiting until draft night for much of anything real to happen. But that will come. The post Pre-Finals Open Thread first appeared on Raptors Republic.

The following is part of Raptors Republic’s series of pieces reviewing the season for the Toronto Raptors. You can find all the pieces in the series here. It’s November, 2023. It’s warm and sunny in Toronto, but warm and sunny for the winter. Maybe, a spring coat instead of a winter coat. But Scottie Barnes is sweltering. He’s burning. Doused in sweat. Not because he’s in San Antonio, where it’s over 20 degrees. No. Because he’s hitting one of his sh

Boston, despite winning over and over, just doesn’t seem to frighten fans like dominant teams often do. Are they going to just stumble their way to a championship? Is Luka Doncic going to snatch it from them? What’s the deal? Siakam has played so, so well. I’m happy for him.The draft, by the way, is juuuust over a month away. Toronto might use all its picks, but Masai Ujiri seemed doubtful when he spoke at the trade deadline. (Although, that was before Toronto’s own pick

Gradey Dick is the NBA’s next great movement shooter
I love wide-open threes. We all do. We know players shoot much better when they’re unguarded, and the goal of virtually every offense in the NBA is to create layups by any means necessary, and to create wide-open, high value jumpers for good shooters. Sometimes coaches can concoct (say that three times fast) structure for offenses that rely on well timed sequences by the players to create wide-open looks, but mostly teams are relying on players to get to dangerous spots on the floor to ben

There are three minutes remaining in Game 3 of the Dallas Mavericks first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Mavericks lead by 13, and Kyrie Irving has the ball, looking to end the game. He takes a pick on the wing and positions himself to bend back around the other direction to jet into the middle of the floor, then using an in-and-out dribble to scoot back to the original direction. Then a crossover back to the opposite side of the pick, gathering in a pull-up jumper. He drills

What can the Raptors learn from the 2023-24 playoffs?
The Battle of Waterloo was not so much won by the English as it was lost by the French. By one commander in particular: Marshal Grouchy. Given command of a large portion of Napoleon Bonaparte’s army, Grouchy was commanded to keep the Prussians from making contact with Napoleon. He failed to do so because of a lack of reconnaissance and speed, and when the battle was joined at Waterloo, he moved too slowly to help despite hearing the incredible sound of cannonfire from that direction.
