• Lake Tahoe Resort Should Become First West Coast Ski Area To Open for 2026-27 Season

    It’s official.
Unless someone pulls a fast one, the ski season in California/Nevada (and the broader West Coast) will kick off on November 6, 2026, at Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, the high-elevation resort near Lake Tahoe.
The upcoming opening date, which Mt. Rose had previously had its eyes on, was locked in by early-season snow and cold temperatures, allowing snowmaking operations to get underway.

Across Utah, snow piled up at ski resorts, in some cases to the tune of a foot or more. In Little Cottonwood Canyon, Alta Ski Area picked up 15 inches during this latest storm, according to its snow report, although amounts are probably higher at the highest elevations.
The neighboring Snowbird saw at least the same amount in 48 hours, per its snow report, making for a nice head start weeks ahead of when both resorts plan to open towards the end of the mo
