• Padres 9, Braves 3: Galvis stages one-man hit parade

Let’s not beat around the bush: Freddy Galvis was on fire tonight. The last time a Padres shortstop went 5-for-5 was Craig Shipley in 1996, and the last Friar to pick up five hits in a game was Jon Jay over two years ago (and Jay had a sixth at bat to work with). Galvis was responsible for nearly half of the team’s RBI tonight and over a third of their hits. Some other Padres were good, too, I guess. Jose Pirela hit his first homer of the season, and Clayton Richard continued his in

Luis Patiño Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
Padres right-hander Luis Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery yesterday, per Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune. The righty will miss the remainder of 2024 and some part of 2025 as well.
Patiño, 24, began the season on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation. It seems that subsequent testing revealed the need for surgery. Given the typical 14-18 month recovery range for Tommy John procedures, he will miss the remainder of this year and a significant chunk of 2025
