• NY board backs $15 minimum wage for fast-food workers

  Fast-food workers in New York state would see a super-sized raise under a plan to phase in a $15 minimum wage — the first time a state has singled out a particular industry for such an increase. The hike, approved Thursday by the state Wage Board, would increase gradually over three years in New York City and six years for the rest of the state.

  A deal has been struck between New York City and Uber on the eve of a City Council vote that could have placed a cap on the number of cars the ride-hailing company can have on the streets of the nation's largest city. Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration announced Wednesday that Uber agreed to a four-month study on the impact of the cars on traffic and the environment.

  Video of a man inside a grocery store appears to show him surrendering to police before two NYPD officers beat him and then place him in handcuffs. The video, obtained by the NY Daily News, shows the man put up both his hands, but the cops throw punches and strike him with a baton.

On the Upper West Side, a driver nearly hits the cyclists before he quickly swerves out of the way. And there was one man on a bike who barreled through a group of pedestrians as they were crossing the street.
