• Doctor weighs in on change of blood pressure guidelines

    The American Heart Association changed the definition of high blood pressure for the first time in 14 years this week. It means half of adults in the U.S. now have high blood pressure.

    (CNN) – A total of 210,000 gallons of oil leaked Thursday from the Keystone Pipeline in South Dakota, the pipeline’s operator, TransCanada, said.Crews shut down the pipeline Thursday morning and officials are investigating the cause of the leak.This is the largest Keystone oil spill to date in South Dakota, said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the state’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources.In April 2016, there was a 400-barrel release — or 16,800 gallons &
  • Vehicle runs red light, strikes police vehicle in Buffalo

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Buffalo Police officer was treated for minor injuries Thursday after a vehicle apparently ran a red light and struck the officer’s patrol vehicle.
    The incident happened just before 7:50 a.m. near Oak Street and Goodell Street.
    The officer was transported to ECMC.
    The incident remains under investigation. There are no charges at this time.

    WILLIAMVSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Tops Friendly Markets is the latest grocery store to offer customers the option to buy groceries from the comfort of their home.
    The grocery chain launched Instacart on Thursday, offering online ordering. Groceries will be delivered to the door in as little as one hour. Instacart services will be available daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Volunteer firefighter charged with stealing over $19,000 from fire company

    TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – The former treasurer of the River Road Volunteer Fire Company has been arrested for stealing over $19,000 from the company since the start of the year.
    Timothy D. Kler, 35, was charged Thursday with third degree grand larceny. He turned himself in with his lawyer and was arraigned before being released.
    Kler is accused of stealing over $19,000 from the fire department since being elected treasurer in January.

  • Three charged with animal cruelty following Jamestown Fire

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Three people have been charged with animal cruelty in Jamestown after fire and police responded to a residence for a fire.
    All of the occupants at 12 Mt. Vernon Place were able to get out safely. Firefighters rescued two dogs from inside the residence, one of which was found to be suffering from extreme neglect. The dog had extremely matted hair, was covered in feces with open sores, and had a large cyst on its abdomen.

  • AAA: Over 3.1 million New York State residents are expected to travel this Thanksgiving weekend

    (WIVB) – Over 50.9 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, according to numbers released Thursday by AAA.
    That’s a 3.3 percent increase over 2016.

  • Fatal accident under investigation in Lancaster

    LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB) – Lancaster Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Broadway (Route 20) at Woodlawn Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
    The vehicle, operated by a 55-year-old Lancaster woman, was eastbound on Broadway when a large pickup truck traveling westbound crossed over and struck the vehicle head-on.
    The truck was driven by a 23-year-old Buffalo man who was not injured. He is cooperating with police.

  • Police: Cheektowaga shooter violated the state’s SAFE Act

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Authorities say things could have ended much worse in Cheektowaga Tuesday when 29 year-old Travis Green opened fire in the Dollar General parking lot.
    Cheektowaga Police say Green was wearing body armor and was heavily armed and heavily equipped.

  • Boil water order issued for parts of City of Niagara Falls

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Niagara Falls Water Board has issued a boil water notice for some City of Niagara Falls residents due to a water line rapture.
    The notice applies to residents in the area between Main Street and Pine Avenue to 10th Street and Pine Avenue, including the Niagara Towers and Spallino Towers.
