• Police: Man strikes and drags light pole behind car from Buffalo to Orchard Park

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB)- Police have charged a Hamburg man after he struck a light pole in Buffalo and dragged it behind his car to Orchard Park.
    Police say 39-year-old Raymond Duggan hit a 25-foot light pole at Cliff Street while entering the ramp to the I-190 in Buffalo Friday night. The pole became lodged under his car as he drove to Orchard Park.

  • Governor Cuomo signs bill to allow medical marijuana for PTSD

    NEW YORK, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to add post-traumatic stress disorder to the list of ailments that can legally be treated with medical marijuana.
    The PTSD bill was part of a package of legislation that Cuomo signed Saturday to mark Veterans Day.
    The Democratic governor said 19,000 New Yorkers with PTSD could be helped by medical marijuana.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Trailing 74-73 in the final minutes of the second half, the UB men’s basketball team used a 7-1 run to end the game and rally past Canisius to secure an 80-75 win Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
    The Griffs, who were led in scoring by Takal Molson with 25 points, drop to 0-1 on the season.  Isaiah Reese chipped in with 20 for Canisius.

    Saleem Merukeb, 37, was shot and killed outside of Frizzy’s bar on November Third.

    (CNN) – Investors are loving the Canadian government’s proposal to tax legal weed at a dollar per gram.
    On Friday, the country’s Department of Finance reiterated the government’s commitment to legalizing the drug for recreational use. It also laid out a plan to levy an excise tax on cannabis products at 1 Canadian dollar per gram (USD $0.79) or 10% of the sale price, whichever is higher.   • Buffalo Police make arrest in deadly Nov. 3 shooting on Allen Street

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police have an individual in custody in connection with a fatal shooting outside of a popular Allen Street bar earlier this month.
    Police sources say the suspect is Jeremy Wright, 30, of Buffalo.
    Saleem Merukeb, 37, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Nov. 3 outside of Frizzy’s on Allen Street. He was taken to Buffalo General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.According to sources, the incident stemmed from an argument over a girl.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – After sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules, Cierra Dillard made her presence known, scoring a team-high 17 points in the UB Women’s basketball team’s 87-73 win over Delaware in the season opener.
