    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — City of Buffalo officials, including Mayor Byron Brown, have reached out to Facebook, hoping they’ll remove a fake social media account.
    “Some members of the public were fooled into thinking this page was an actual city page,” said Mayor Byron Brown.

  • Olmsted School student charged with illegally posting video of another student

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – An Olmsted School student has been accused of posting a video of another student urinating on a social media platform.
    The 16-year-old male student was arrested and charged with unlawful surveillance and disseminating unlawful surveillance just after 9:30 a.m. Monday.

    NEW YORK (AP) — Former New York state Senate leader Dean Skelos has been granted a new trial in his corruption case.
    A federal appeals court said Tuesday the jury was wrongly instructed. That’s in light of a recent Supreme Court ruling narrowing the definition of what it takes to convict a public official.
    Skelos was convicted on extortion, bribery and conspiracy charges and sentenced last year to five years in prison. The Republican has remained free on appeal.

    NEW YORK (AP) — Federal prosecutors have announced charges of fraud and corruption in college basketball, including against four coaches.
    The coaches work at Oklahoma State, Auburn University, Arizona and the University of Southern California.

  • Young boys who survived fall that killed parents are recovering

    GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Last month, a family of four fell from a 200-foot cliff while hiking at Zoar Valley Gorge. The parents, William and Amanda Green, were killed, but their two boys survived.
    Alexander, 4, and Jacob Green, 7, were taken to Women and Children’s Hospital following the fall, where they were treated for multiple injuries.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Some good news for drivers — gas prices are dropping.
    Analysts say it’s thanks to recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey.
    The average price of a gallon of regular fuel fell seven cents over the past two weeks to $2.62. The average cost of diesel fuel was down two cents.
