• Jamestown man accused of stabbing vehicle, making threats with knife

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Jamestown man was arrested Sunday after allegedly stabbing a vehicle with a knife using the knife to threaten another party.
    James J. Spitale was charged with third degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and second degree menacing. The incident occurred on Palmer Street around 8 p.m. Sunday.
    Spitale was transported to Jamestown City Jail awaiting arraignment.

    McKEE, Ky. — Police say a man killed a 5-year-old boy and brutally attacked his mother, pushing her off a 77-foot cliff in eastern Kentucky, over $200.
    Kentucky State Police detective Charles Brandenburg testified Monday during a preliminary hearing in Jackson County District Court that 41-year-old Lonnie Belt thought the boy’s stepfather had stolen the money from him. The stepfather, David Durham, has denied the accusation.

    (AP) – The U.S. Defense Department was working around the clock to deliver humanitarian assistance to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, even as the death toll climbed further across the Caribbean after Hurricane Maria.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A registered sex offender from Buffalo has been charged with making inappropriate sexual contact with a five-year-old girl who he was babysitting.
    Thomas Johnson, 44, of Buffalo, was charged with a felony count of sexual conduct against a child less than 11 years old and endangering the welfare of a child.     WEST VALLEY, N.Y. (AP) — A building that has been central to the decades-long cleanup of a western New York nuclear site is being demolished.
    Crews this month began tearing down the vitrification facility at the West Valley Demonstration Project. The reinforced concrete structure is where more than 600,000 gallons of high-level radioactive waste were solidified into glass for disposal.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Buffalo say a man was shot in the leg late Sunday night.
    The shooting happened at a gas station on Bailey Ave. near E. Ferry St. around 11:15 p.m.
    The victim was a 23-year-old Buffalo man. As of Monday morning, he was at ECMC in stable condition.

    The mega retailer is testing a new service that would allow a delivery person inside your front door, and if you’re not home, they would drop off packages, and even put groceries in the fridge.
    Delivery workers would be a given a code to enter, and customers could monitor the delivery status on their smartphones.
  • Fire Injures Three Firefighters

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Three firefighters were injured while working to put out a fire Sunday afternoon.
    It happened on Parkdale Avenue around 1:15 p.m.
    Emergency crews say the fire started on the second floor of an apartment building and spread to the attic.
    Crews tell us 14 people are being assisted by the Red Cross.
    The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

    NEWFANE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara County Sheriff’s are investigating a crash in the Town of Newfane.
    It happened on West Lake Road just before 2 p.m. Sunday.
    Deputies say a minivan going eastbound failed to yield the right of way when it tried to make a left-hand turn.
    Investigators say a motorcycle going westbound collided with the van.
    The two people on the motorcycle were flown to ECMC to be treated.
