    Then 7-year-old Tremont Seals was found bleeding from his head on the pavement, after Buffalo police say he was struck by a car.

    SOUTH WALES, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two people had sex at a county park and were found with narcotics, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s office.
    A county park ranger called the Sheriff’s office about a suspicious vehicle near Emery Park’s concert shelter around 11 p.m. on Friday.

    FARMERSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cattaraugus County man was charged with starting fires that destroyed a seasonal camp and two house trailers.
    Back in April, New York State Police began to investigate fires on Huyck Rd. in the Town of Farmersville, eventually coming to the conclusion that they were intentionally started.

    Hurricane Maria has intensified into a dangerous Category 4 storm as it bears down on the Caribbean.

    MIAMI (AP) — The National Hurricane Center in Miami says that Hurricane Maria has strengthened to a Category 3 storm as it headed toward the Caribbean.
    Maria on Monday was “rapidly” intensifying into a major hurricane. The eye is expected to move through the Leeward Islands later Monday. The storm’s center was about 60 miles (95 kilometers) east of Martinique, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (195 kph).

  • More than 30 percent of Buffalo residents lived in poverty last year

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — New data from the U.S. Census Bureau says more than 30 percent of Buffalo residents were living in poverty this past year.
    Buffalo Business First published a report on poverty in major U.S. cities, and Buffalo was low on the rankings — number 80.
    The only three cities listed as having a poverty rate higher than Buffalo were Laredo, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan. Detroit was ranked last, at number 83, with a 35 percent poverty rate.

  • Erie County closes on funds for ECMC ER

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — ECMC administrators have decided to move forward with a new emergency department.
    Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says they’ve closed on a $107 million bond transaction.
    It will allow for the ER expansion and the replacement of HVAC equipment at the hospital and in county buildings.
    $17 million will go to offset the cost of paying for medical care for the poor and uninsured.

    JERICHO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Nassau County Police Department has cancelled an AMBER Alert following the abduction of two children in Jericho.
    The two children, Promise Lee and Love Lee were safely recovered. New York State Police announced the alert cancellation around 9 a.m.
    The suspect in their abduction was identified as 31-year-old Sun Shin.
    No charges have been announced.

    HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) — A sandwich that’s served billions of times each year traces its roots to the Erie County Fairgrounds, in the Town of Hamburg.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer is sounding off about soaring gas prices following hurricane Harvey and Irma. He says prices should be coming down but he fears some businesses could be taking advantage of drivers.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police have confirmed that a man was “shot in the buttocks” during a drive-by shooting Sunday night.
    Police were called to Northland Avenue and Wohler’s Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Sunday night.
