• Jamestown man charged with robbing woman at knife point

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 26-year-old Jamestown resident has been charged with robbing an acquaintance at knife point.
    Terin L. Butler, 26, of Jamestown, was charged Thursday with first degree robbery, second degree menacing, and first degree unlawful imprisonment.
    According to police reports, the female victim told police Thursday that Butler, an acquaintance of hers, had robbed her at knife point of nearly $300. Butler then fled the scene on foot.

  • Anonymous $2.4M gift to fund Houghton equestrian center

    HOUGHTON COLLEGE  (WIVB) – Houghton College will build a new equestrian center thanks to a $2.4 million gift that comes to the college anonymously.
    The new building will house an indoor riding arena, a dozen horse stalls, a welcome center, classroom and concessions stand.
    Students from all across the country – as far as California, Texas, Washington, and Colorado – come to Houghton to pursue equine studies and this facility will help them attract more to their program.

  • Buffalo Police investigating Friday afternoon shooting

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are investigating a shooting incident that happened just before 2 p.m. in the 200 block of Hempstead Avenue.
    Detectives say a 21-year-old male was struck by gunfire.
    He was transported to ECMC with apparent non-life threatening injuries.

    (CBS) – Marlon Bundo, the rabbit belonging to Vice President Mike Pence and his family, has scored his own book deal.
    Pence’s middle child, Charlotte Pence, wrote a children’s book about the white and black bunny, according to a post on Bundo’s Instagram page Friday.The book is about the Bundo following Pence, his “Grampa,” around, the post said. Bundo has had his own Instagram account since January and has nearly 15,000 followers.

    Graphic Controls, which manufactures data recording supplies, recently acquired Vermed.

    ANGOLA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Lake Shore Central School District buildings and a BOCES center went into lockout Friday morning through the end of the school day.
    The Evans Police Department posted about the lock-out Friday afternoon, stating that the decision was a precaution due to an ongoing police investigation of a suspicious male that originated in the Village of Angola Friday morning, a short distance from one of the district’s elementary schools.

    ANGOLA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Lake Shore Central School District buildings and a BOCES center went into lockout Friday morning.
    These include the following:
    Lake Shore Sr. High School, Middle School

    Students inside these buildings are not in danger. During this time, no one can enter or leave the school.

    SANBORN, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 1.2 magnitude earthquake occurred near Sanborn on Thursday.
    To put it in perspective, the earthquake’s epicenter was more than nine miles north of North Tonawanda and almost 10 miles west of Lockport.
    The earthquake was four kilometers deep and occurred early in the afternoon.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Some Buffalo State students who live in a new housing complex say they are already concerned about their safety.
    Monarch 716 opened last month.
    Already, Buffalo police have responded several times to calls, including ones about shots fired and a stabbing.
    Residents say the basketball court, indoor bowling alley and fitness center have been shut down.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Senecas are still at a standstill, and the city of Niagara Falls remains caught in the middle.
    Gov. Cuomo slammed the Senecas Thursday for what he called a refusal to live up to their agreement to pay for operations at the Seneca Niagara Casino.
    The state says the Senecas agreed to keep paying until 2023.

  • Woman charged with random murder in parking lot pleads not guilty

    BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – Holly Colino, the Arizona woman charged with randomly shooting and killing a mother from Orleans County faced a judge on Thursday.
    She is facing several charges including second degree murder.
    Collino entered a not guilty plea to the charges.Investigators say she shot and killed 33-year-old Megan Dix in a parking lot in Brockport last month.

    WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Williamsville School District voted to eliminate class rankings for high school students Tuesday night.
    Supporters of the decision say class rankings can make it harder for some students to get into college, even if they are just outside of the top ten percent in their class.
    The new rule starts with the current freshman class, and will not affect students in 10th, 11th, 12th.

    (WIVB) – The newest Crayola crayon is here, and “she’s” blue-tiful.
    “Blue-tiful” is the name of the new crayon, which will replace the retired “Dandelion”. 
    Crayola gave the new color a nickname “Bea” and a personality (shy at first, but loves to share BIG ideas with new people).

    WILLCOX, Ariz. (AP) — Wildlife conservationists have released new video footage showing what is believed to be one of three jaguars to be seen in the United States in the past few years.
    The Center for Biological Diversity released the video taken this summer on Thursday, saying the big cat was the same one first seen on camera in November 2016.

    AUSTIN, Texas — An estimated 4,000 Texas homes and other facilities are still without power weeks after Harvey slammed the state, Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday.
    Abbott said at a news conference that Texas expects to seek more than $50 billion in federal housing funding for recovery.
    Abbott said those displaced by the storm can seek help via community development grants covering long-term housing needs as well as temporary costs while waiting for their homes to be repaired.
