• 2017 Solar Eclipse in Western New York

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo didn’t fall into the path of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse, but that didn’t stop crowds from coming out and enjoying the rare event.
    The planetarium at Buffalo State College was packed with more than a thousand people for the event. Some of them showed up before 9 a.m.
    Buff State was designated as an official eclipse viewing site by NASA. The maximum eclipse was just over 72 percent.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – A family is trying to pick up the pieces, after the death of Hannah Lucas, 7.
    She died in a house fire Friday night. It happened on South Avenue in Niagara Falls.
    She was one of 11 kids who lived there, we’re told everyone else made it out okay.

    FREDONIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – SUNY Fredonia welcomed its second-largest class of new students over the weekend.
    The university has 1,164 first-year students starting classes in the fall, nearly 25 percent more than 2016-2017, when 934 students began their first-year there.
    The numbers surpass SUNY Fredonia’s goal for 2017-2018 by more than 16 percent, a press release from the college said Monday.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo police say a 21-year-old woman was arrested following a morning stabbing on Carl St.
    According to authorities, the stabbing was related to a dispute that the woman had with her boyfriend.
    The woman and the stabbing victim have not been identified by police.

    SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) — A 9-year-old is dead on Syracuse’s Southwest side after being shot by his 10-year-old brother early Monday morning, according to the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office.
