  • Tractor trailer tire explodes in Holland, damaging nearby building

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A tractor trailer tire exploded in Holland early Tuesday morning, causing a loud explosion.
    When Erie County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they observed that a tire from the trailer had caused damage to a structure at 23 North Main Street.
    The Sheriff’s commercial truck inspection unit was called to continue the investigation and issued Henry Watson of Ontario, Canada, a ticket for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

  • No criminal charges for driver in fatal pedestrian crash at Tops in East Aurora

    EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) — No criminal charges will be filed against the 18-year-old driver involved in a fatal pedestrian crash in East Aurora June 25.
    The incident occurred in the parking lot of Tops on Grey Street in East Aurora.
    Police say 48-year-old Wendy Bus was struck by an SUV while she left the store with her son, who was an employee there at the time.
    Bus suffered a head injury and was taken to ECMC where she later died.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Calling the north end of the city a “food desert,” Niagara Falls’ Director of Community Development wants to see more access to fresh food.
    The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) says a “food desert” is an area without easy access to fresh vegetables, fruit and other whole foods.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man is wanted by the Erie County Sheriff’s office.
    Joseph Lopez, 19, faces a charge of First-Degree Sexual Conduct Against a Child.
    He is described as 5’5″ and 200 lbs.
    Lopez’s last known address was 24 Sumner St.

  • Data: Job growth in Buffalo isn’t much when compared to other areas

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that job growth in the Buffalo metro area is not much when compared to other major markets.
    The amount of jobs in Buffalo went from 475,000 in the middle of 2016 to 476,800 in the middle of this year, according to Buffalo Business First. That is a 0.4 percent increase.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The building formerly known as One Seneca Tower will go by a different, but similar name — Seneca One Tower.
    Douglas Development Corporation has been redeveloping the building since they bought it last year.
    On Wednesday, new renderings were released, giving an idea of what is in store for the building.
    A vice president with Douglas says a grocery store and micro breweries are planned for the tower.

  • Niagara Falls mayor comments on report that downgrades city’s credit outlook

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster says the city’s bond rating remained neutral in a new S&P report, but their outlook has been downgraded.
    Dyster says it went “basically from a neutral outlook to a negative outlook.”
    “They said that a resolution from the casino dispute could help that going forward,” Dyster commented.
    Earlier this year, the Seneca Nation made their last payment for casino operations to the state.

    Authorities say Dalton committed a homicide on June 29.
    Dalton is black, 6’4″ and 225 lbs. He has brown eyes and black hair.

    LEVALLOIS-PERRET, France (AP) — French police are searching for a driver who slammed his BMW into a group of soldiers in a Paris suburb Wednesday, injuring six of them in what appeared to be a carefully timed ambush before speeding away, officials said.

  • House in danger of collapsing after morning fire

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Investigators want to know what led to Wednesday morning’s house fire on Allegany St.
    It started around 3:30 a.m.
    In the video above, you can see the flames gutted the home, leaving a big hole in the side of it.
    It was not immediately clear whether or not people were inside the house. Neighbors say it had been vacant for more than a year.

  • One year after HTI fire in Lockport, an attempt to turn tragedy into legacy

    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – This week will be one year since the massive HTI tire recycling plant fire on Stevens Street.
    A 14-year-old boy died in the fire, which also destroyed the plant. Over 300 firefighters were on scene at the fire for two days, and the fire almost shut down the city for several days.
