    Photolitec is a spin-off company of Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
    The Biotech research firm has a therapy which essentially fights cancer with light.  But, the team behind this product tells us its not easy to get their product on the market.

    WESTERN NEW YORK (WIVB) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo is deploying state agencies to Western New York and the North Country today ahead of severe weekend storms.

  • Compromise could be coming in eminent domain claims for Northern Access pipeline

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Some property owners in Erie County spent the morning in a State Supreme Courtroom Friday fighting back against National Fuel’s efforts to use parts of their land for the proposed Northern Access pipeline.
    The pipeline would carry natural gas from Pennsylvania through Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Erie Counties to markets in Canada.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police are warning of a suspicious man in Buffalo.
    Buffalo police say that shortly before 10 a.m. Friday morning, a white, bald man with a bluish hat and glasses asked a student if she needed a ride near Main and Utica streets.

    RUSHFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) — After three tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down on July 20, a fourth one was confirmed Friday morning.
    The fourth tornado happened around the same time as the others, but this one was in Rushford.
    The Rushford tornado was not as strong as the others, which landed in Angelica, Hamburg and Holland.
    Unlike the others, which had Enhanced Fujita scale ratings of EF-1 and EF-2, the Rushford tornado was rated as a weak EF-0 on the scale.

  • Sheriff: Drunk driver found in pond overnight

    NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two Erie County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash scene in North Collins, where a minivan was found in a pond.
    The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
    When they arrived, deputies say North Collins fire personnel were trying to rescue the driver from her vehicle. She was smoking a cigarette during that time, they say.

    AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — The new Whole Foods in Amherst has an opening date — September 15.
    The Sheridan Dr. store will be the twentieth in New York, but the first in western New York.
    In addition to selling groceries, Whole Foods will also feature a tap room and restaurant called Bar 1818.
    Whole Foods officials say the 50,000 square foot store will create more than 160 new jobs in the area.

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in the City of Tonawanda say a man was found with cocaine and Valium after passing out in his vehicle.
    On Thursday afternoon, officers began to investigate after receiving a call about a driver “all over the road” on Young St.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Craft beer lovers can head to Buffalo Riverworks to sample some brews.
    This is the Buffalo Brewfest’s first year at Riverworks.

  • Some NYSEG customers without power in Cheektowaga, Southtowns

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Almost 2,000 NYSEG customers are without power in the Town of Cheektowaga, East Aurora, Orchard Park, and  Wales due to a power outage.
    According to the NYSEG power outage central map, 1,825 customers are currently without power in WNY.

  • Ground broken on $5.2 million Nash Lofts

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Ground was broken Thursday on the Nash Lofts, a $5.2 million mixed-use project in Buffalo’s Michigan Street African-American Heritage Corridor.
    The 40,000 sq. ft. building will include 18 new apartments, commercial space, indoor parking, a restaurant, and space donated by the local NAACP.
    The project will function as a gateway to the Michigan Street African American History Corridor. It will restore four buildings that have been vacant for more than 15 years.
