  • Man charged in 2008 shooting death of friend found guilty by jury

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A jury in the murder trial for a man accused of shooting his friend in 2008 has returned a guilty verdict.
    Erik Donaldson, 32, was convicted of murder in the second degree for fatally shooting his friend, 22-year-old Christian Thomas of Buffalo, nine years ago.
    Thomas’ body was found in an area between two houses on Montana Street in April 2008. He had been shot in the face and back.
    Thomas had been missing since Dec. 30, 2007.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will host a public information meeting next week to present the proposed project to transform NY Route 198 (Scajaquada Expressway) from an urban expressway to an urban boulevard.

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s office says one of their off-duty deputies saved a life at a local gym on Wednesday.
    Deputy Lundberg was working out at a gym in Cheektowaga when another person at the facility collapsed.

    MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WIVB) — A building has collapsed, reportedly killing at least one person, according to CBS.

    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — A North Tonawanda woman, convicted of stabbing her boyfriend to death, is now a free woman.
    Jennifer Marchant was released from the Niagara County Jail on Wednesday morning after being sentenced to 12 years in prison.
    She spent the past four years behind bars, charged with manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend, Ralph Stone.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A number of people did not wake up in their home Wednesday due to a fire that broke out on Buffalo’s east side.
    It happened around 2 a.m. on Rustic Pl., just south of Genesee St. According to fire officials, it started on a hallway ceiling.

    CHICAGO, Ill. (WIVB) – The body of a young Cattaraugus County man was found Tuesday under an “L” train in Chicago.
    Investigators say he was an 18-year-old man from the town of Freedom.

    (CBS NEWS)  – Warren Woodard almost didn’t believe his wife when she told him a giant black bear was blocking the front entrance to their Longwood, Florida, house last week.

    (CNN) – As of July 31, the number of children across the United States who have died of heatstroke when left in hot cars was at a record high.This year, 29 children have died of heatstroke after being left in a vehicle.   • Tonawanda man believes family heirloom painting is a Michelangelo

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Martin Kober grew up believing that the small, wood paneled painting in his family’s home was a work of Michelangelo.
    The family even referred to the painting as “The Mike”. It was given to Kober’s family in the 18th century, and the family has been trying to get it recognized by the artistic community for generations.
