  • Driver admits to falling asleep at wheel following Chautauqua County crash

    KIANTONE, N.Y. (WIVB) – A driver from Jamestown admitted to falling asleep at the wheel while driving Tuesday morning after narrowly missing a swimming pool display and crashing into a play set in the same yard.
    The driver, David A. Philbrick, 42, of Jamestown, was charged with failure to keep right.

    GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 13-year-old girl told the Erie County Sheriff’s office that a man tried to get her into his truck.
    According to the girl, she was walking her bike along Huth Rd. in Grand Island when an older, white man with a “mostly” white beard repeatedly offered her a ride.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The case is moving forward against Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Adolphus Washington.
    He pleaded ‘not guilty’ to a gun charge in Ohio last month.
    News 4 has learned the case is moving to a non-jury trial.
    Washington was arrested outside a water park near Cincinnati in July.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCMH) — Georgia Congressman Earl “Buddy” Carter has introduced legislation that would allow states to conduct drug tests for Unemployment Insurance applicants.

    WHITNEY POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities in upstate New York have captured an alligator that got loose.
    According to Animal Adventure Park, New York state Department of Environmental Conservation crews captured the renegade reptile Saturday behind the fairgrounds in rural Whitney Point. Sightings of the alligator were first reported July 22.

  • UB study suggests connection between gum disease and cancer risk

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A new study from the University at Buffalo is gaining national attention.
    It suggests older women with a history of gum disease may also have an elevated cancer risk.
    Researchers at UB tracked data on 65,000 post-menopausal women and found those with periodontal problems had a 14 percent higher risk for cancer.

    HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB)- A Western New York member of Congress hopes to use a federal bill to overrule the SAFE Act.
    Rep. Chris Collins’ bill proposes reversing restrictions on shotguns and rifles. He announced the Second Amendment Guarantee Act, or SAGA, Monday at the Hamburg Rod and Gun Club.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- A video shows the moments before an Allentown apartment building was engulfed in flames Sunday.
    “They had been posting on social media, Snapchat all night, them carrying on, partying,” said Barry Rebholz, a resident of 486 Franklin Street.
    The Snapchat videos were posted by Brandon Adler, who according to Rebholz, had a friend over Sunday morning.

  • Police: Owner of dogs that attacked 7-year-old charged after home found covered in feces

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Nearly two months after 7-year-old Kaeden Mitchell was attacked by two Rottweilers, the dogs’ owner has been charged.
    Kaeden was playing with a friend in Niagara Falls when the attack happened in early June.
    After roughly a month-long stay in a hospital, he was released.
    Shortly after the attack happened, the dogs were euthanized, but their owner was not charged until this past week.
