    HOUSTON (AP) — Police commanders in Houston say order numbers taken from a popular Texas fast-food restaurant cannot be used to mark evidence at crime scenes.
    Officers are not allowed to use the distinctive orange-colored, tent-shaped numbers Whataburger customers receive so that orders can be brought to their tables.
    Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says there were concerns use of the markers amounted to a police endorsement of Whataburger.

  • Officers, bystanders recognized for pulling car off cyclist

    AUSTIN (KXAN) — When a bicyclist was pinned under a car, two Austin police officers and four bystanders jumped in to lift it and bring the woman to safety. On Wednesday, they were recognized for saving her life.
    “I’ve seen a lot of wrecks, not someone that was still alive pinned like that,” said Officer Anthony Martin, who responded to the scene.
    “I didn’t think she was going to make it,” Martin said. “It’s a miracle that she did.”

  • Cuts to Medicaid loom for Texas ambulance companies

    AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several ambulance services from across Texas are working to stave off a potential 10 percent cut to their Medicaid reimbursements. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is planning to cut the amounts ambulance services can bill the government for ambulance rides for people on government assistance.
    The Medicaid reimbursement cuts would mean taxpayers would get a break on the amounts the government spends on Medicaid payments nationwide.

    AUSTIN (KXAN) — Joseph Cantu has been sentenced to six years probation for the fatal hit-and-run of former University of Texas track athlete Philip Wood.
