  Ski patrollers have rescued a 28-year-old man who was injured after triggering an avalanche while skiing alone in the backcountry near a Juneau ski area.
  The Juneau Empire reports the man was taken to a hospital for treatment after the Saturday incident and reported to be in stable condition.

  Thousands of locals and visitors packed the sidewalks of downtown Anchorage Saturday morning for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race’s ceremonial start. Temperatures near zero degrees did little to hamper the excitement as sled dog teams leapt across the start line at Fourth Avenue and D Street.

• Avalanche at Eaglecrest injures one, city warns of high danger

  An avalanche at Eaglecrest Ski Area on Saturday injured one person.
  According to a Capital City Fire/Rescue Facebook post, a ski patroller saw the injured person get caught by the avalanche.Eaglecrest Ski Patrol retrieved the injured person and took them to a waiting ambulance.

• Body found floating in Gastineau Channel

  Juneau police say a person reported a dead man floating in Gastineau Channel near the end of South Franklin Street on Friday. According to a Juneau Police Department news release, the body of 66-year-old Adrian D’Cafango was located in the water.
  The release said there are no obvious signs of trauma and an autopsy is pending. D’Cafango’s next-of-kin were notified. The investigation is ongoing.

• Police identify body found in Juneau channel

  The Juneau Police Department (JPD) is investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the Gastineau Channel Friday afternoon.
  JPD Sgt. Shawn Phelps explained in a statement that someone reported finding a body in the channel near the end of South Franklin Street at about 4:30 p.m.
  The man was retrieved from the water and identified as 66-year-old Adrian D’Cafango, according to Phelps.
