A stabbing Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the entrance of Coto De Caza, an upscale gated community in southern Orange County, left a 72-year-old man hospitalized, while one person was taken into custody.
The incident happened at 11:42 a.m. near Antonio Parkway and Coto De Caza Drive, just past the north gate of the community, Orange County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Breckner said. The victim was seriously hurt in an altercation with a suspect, who is described as a man in his 20s.

    Freddie Freeman, Dodgers beat Rockies
LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers’ bats woke up in a nice way on Saturday after taking a snooze for most of the opener against the Colorado Rockies one night earlier.
And most promising of all, Freddie Freeman was right there.
Freeman had two hits with a triple, Andy Pages had three hits and scored twice, and the Dodgers bounced back with a 4-1 win on Saturday.
Manager Dave Roberts had noted before the game how the offense had been one of the best in baseball even with Freeman not producing

Reid Detmers’ nightmare continues in Angels loss to Mariners
SEATTLE — At various times throughout his still relatively short big league career, Reid Detmers has looked like one of the Angels best starters and one of their worst.
He’s currently the latter, mired in a mystifying two-month slump.
Detmers gave up five runs in the Angels’ 9-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, bloating his ERA to 6.14.
Detmers had a 1.19 ERA over his first four starts, but he’s now followed that with an 8.93 mark over his last eight.

SEATTLE — Reid Detmers stood at his locker in an empty clubhouse, still trying to compose himself from the news that crushed him, but also seemed inevitable.
After Detmers gave up five runs in a 9-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, the Angels optioned the left-hander with a 6.14 ERA to Triple-A Salt Lake.
“It (expletive) sucks,” Detmers said. “There’s no other way to put it. It sucks. I just gotta do better.”

The right-handed reliever didn’t retire any of the four batters he faced in his season debut March 30 in Baltimore. He was charged with four runs, three earned.
Two months later, Garcia still has a nondescript 4.26 ERA through 25 1/3 innings. However, seven of the 12 earned runs he’s allowed were in just two games, including his season debut.

It’s amazing how old-school flavors can ring up a dose of nostalgia and cash.
