    Many of the estimated 74,000 immigrants typically held in detention centers in California don’t have adequate access to lawyers, are sent to facilities far from their families, and are often kept in their cells up to 22 hours a day.

    It has been nearly two weeks since it last played a game.
    But guess who’s still around? Mater Dei.
    The Monarchs were nonparticipants in the CIF-Southern Section boys basketball championship games fun last week. They last played Feb. 15, when they beat St. John Bosco 81-69 in a CIF-SS Open Division pool-play game.
    Mater Dei (27-4) plays Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Bishop Montgomery (24-6) of Torrance in a CIF Southern California Regionals Open Division first-round game at El Camino College
