Revisiting The People’s Pottage and the insights of Garet Garrett
February 19 marks the birth of a great American individualist, called “one of the most eloquent defenders of freedom in America”–Garet Garrett, who offered what Jeff Tucker called “a sparkling vision of peace under free markets.”
Of particular relevance is The People’s Pottage, of which Ludwig von Mises wrote, “His keen penetration and his forceful, direct language are…unsurpassed by an author.”

Recession not likely before 2021, housing economists say
Good news America: The next recession may not appear in 2020, as a majority of economists long had forecast.
Instead, the next economic downturn could be delayed until 2021 or later, making the current session of economic growth — now almost a decade old — the longest in U.S. history by June. That’s the view of three housing economists speaking Tuesday at the annual convention of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in Las Vegas.
If true, such economic news could be

California took in $345.2 million in tax revenue from legal cannabis during the first year of regulated sales in 2018, according to figures the state released Tuesday.
That’s just more than a third of the $1 billion in annual revenue analysts predicted California would see once the state’s regulated cannabis industry was in full gear. But it does put the state on track to hit the revenue totals Gov. Gavin Newsom forecast in his current fiscal year budget.
