Alexander: Clippers might have sent a message with who they didn’t pick
LOS ANGELES — Only part of the intrigue on draft night involved the men the Clippers actually acquired. There was also the matter of what they didn’t draft: A big man.
There might have been a message there.
The Clippers filled a couple of spots in their backcourt Thursday night, trading with Charlotte to move up from No. 12 to 11 and nab 6-foot-6 point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Kentucky – who is no relation, by the way, unless he becomes really, really good –

EL SEGUNDO — Moe Wagner made one giant leap from Berlin to Ann Arbor, Michigan, as an unheralded college recruit. He managed to attract the attention of Wolverines coach John Beilein, who traveled to Germany to see him in person after viewing a highlight-reel video of his play.

EL SEGUNDO — A quick check of phone records shows no evidence of a call from Cleveland to El Segundo and the following mumble: “Take Moe Wagner.”
And there were no texts from any South Texas wine cellars, or from the 512 area code, that might have commanded the Lakers to do the same.
With the 25th pick in the first round of the NBA draft, the Lakers did take Wagner. There’s every possibility that he will stay here, that he will become yet another brick in their wall.
