  • 2,000-gallon sewage spill in Cypress closes portion of Huntington Harbour

    A portion of the waters in Huntington Harbour, in the vicinity of the Sunset Aquatic and Portofino Cove marinas, has been closed because of a sewage spill.

    SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — A fatal head-on crash on Ortega (74) Highway east of San Juan Capistrano Saturday night also resulted in critical injuries and shut down the two-lane highway for more than two hours, authorities said.
    The CHP log listed the accident as a fatality, but gave no details. The lanes of the highway, which links Orange and Riverside counties,  reopened at 10:48 p.m. after investigators finished their work.

  • Irvine woman dies in Ortega Highway motorcycle crash

    A motorcyclist from Irvine died Saturday, March 31, when her motorcycle went off the side of Highway 74 as she headed toward Orange County, the California Highway Patrol said.
    Just after 10:30 a.m., Annette A. Carrion, 23, was riding a 2015 Triumph east of Morrell Canyon, at 70 to 80 mph, a CHP news release said. Because of her speed, the CHP said, she was unable to make the curve in the highway, which is also known as Ortega Highway in the Santa Ana Mountains.

    Servite has hired former Saint Louis of Hawaii football coach Darnell Arceneaux as its offensive coordinator, the Friars recently announced.
