  AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — Children can be heard screaming “just stop daddy” on a 911 call made from the home of a South Carolina legislator accused of beating his wife and pointing a gun at her, local media reported Friday.
  Republican Rep. Chris Corley, of Graniteville, is charged with first-degree criminal domestic violence and pointing a firearm at a person. If convicted, the felonies could send him to prison for up to 15 years.

  COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A federal judge quickly denied a request to delay a competency hearing for the white man facing a possible death sentence in the killing of nine black parishioners at a Charleston church.

  SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) – The Gila National Forest in southern New Mexico is now nearly one square mile bigger.
  The Trust for Public Land says it has conveyed 605 acres to the U.S. Forest Service through an arrangement paid for with money from the national Land and Water Conservation Fund.

  SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Santa Fe police may have put a dent in the bike thefts that have been plaguing the city.
  An alert citizen noticed three men taking bikes from the Mellow Velo Bike Shop at about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.
  When police got there they found Carlos Navarrete-May, David Perez and Carlos Trejo-Villalobos with eight stolen bikes in the back of a van worth about $32,000.

  Earlier this month, 5-year-old Eli, 6-year-old Olivia and 9-year-old Ian Mascarenas were shot along with their mother on December 5th by an ex-boyfriend in their Four Hills home. She was critically injured, but survived.
